Thunderbird mark message as read after reply

Well it appears I am not the only person having a problem with thunderbirds marking emails as read.

This is how I use thunderbird

I have disabled the “Automatically mark message as read” functionality so that I have to set messages as read. If I don’t do this many emails were being marked as read when I hadn’t really finished reading them or replied to them.

In my case I classify an email as read when I have replied to it or clicked the read button (they require no reply)

I just want Thunderbird to set the read flag when I reply to the email.

Also I normally view the email in the “Message pane (F8)”

I get exactly what I want. Thunderbird now sets emails as read, when I reply to the email.

Steve and I spent 3 days there on the way back from the UK in September.

Horizon dumbing down

I used to love Horizon, it was one of my favourite programs on TV. Something strange has happened over the last few years though. They have stopped presenting both sides of the arguments and simply try to sensationalise the topics they cover..

There seems to be a trend of so called ‘scientific’ programs dumbing down. Horizon has also started to do dramatisations about natural events where it appears to be full of ‘what ifs’ and ‘could occurs’.

It does appear that I’m not the only one who feels this way.

If the BBC is funded by tax payers shouldnt we have a say on how we want the programs made.

If this is anything like the recent crop of Horizon programmes it will have been dumbed down to sub moron level so probably just right for an American President (although I doubt he will ever see it). Horizon used to be the BBCs flagship science programme but not any more.

Simply google for Horizon dumbing down and read what everyone thinks, well everyone outside the BBC and BBC America by the looks of it.

Using ISO files in Linux and Windows.

I’ve started to use more and more ISO images as disk space is becoming cheaper and its a lot easier to manage ISO files compared to physical CDs/DVDs. Mainly because I keep forgetting where I put the physical media.

Linux

appleseed movie

Create an ISO file using dd

 download the x files i want to believe dd if=/dev/cdrom of=image.iso

Mount the ISO using local loop back (you may need to be root)

mkdir /mnt/disk
mount -o loop image.iso /mnt/disk

Windows

For Windows you should get a copy of the free program MagicDisk

I use it all the time at work and I’ve never had any problems with it. Its small simply and works well.

New Car with 200bhp for around €25,000

Well, my Audi A4 is very old now and we will probably need a new car in a year or so.

I’m really thinking of getting another Audi, but I thought I would check around and see what else I could get.

I was looking at Opel, mainly to see how much the Opel GT (Speedster/Spider) was, but I found a 200 bhp Astra for ~ €25k

The Opel GT is only ~€22k and does have 250 bhp, but its a little small for every day use.

You can get a VW Golf GTI for around €26k too.

You can get an Audi A3 with 200 bhp for around €27k

Its about €27k for the 200bhp Honda Civic Type R

It would be good to have a 200bhp car but I really dont know if I can justify it. You can get large, more efficient cars. My A4 is only around 125 bhp. Well it was when new, its 11 years old now so its probably even less.

Oh and I nearly forgot the Ford Focus ST. Its 225bhp and around €27k
